Our Baby Chick Experience

Pukeko Pre-School have been raising some baby chicks from birth. Mrs Hurst brought in 4 of them to share with us this morning.  We watched a video about how chicks hatch out of the eggs.  We then got to hold and pat the babies.  We brainstormed words about the chicks, then thought of interesting sentences we could write.  Check out our awesome writing.

"One hopped on my shoulder" said Jaden.
"The little chicken hopped in my lap because he thought it was a nest" said Manual
"The baby chick felt soft and fluffy" said Muhammed.

" It was hard to hold my chick because it kept trying to                         fly away" said Julia.

"The little chick is cute" said Lealofi

Perky the Pukeko Calendar Art

We watched this really neat video clip about 'Perky' the very clever, friendly and loving Pukeko.  As a class we decided to base our calendar art around him.  Take a look at this incredible story....

Firstly we discussed what a pukeko was.....
Pukekos are a bird native to New Zealand. They live in grasslands and swampy areas.  Pukekos have short red beaks, long red legs and bright blue plummage (that's a fancy name for feathers!).

Next we watched the Genesis energy  advertisement featuring pukekos:)  It was really cute.

1.   We dyed our greenery background
2.   We then used the paint brush to sketch some plants
3.   We painted a black boarder to highlight our art
4.   We looked at a variety of Pukeko's and learnt how to draw them
5.   We drew our Pukeho's in pencil, then painted them
6.   We cut them out once dried and glued them onto our art
7.   Finally we cut out a sun and some grass to add more detail:)

Look at a sample of our amazing calendar art based on 'Perky the Pukeko'. Keep an eye out for your child's art displayed in our cloakroom window.  These will be available to order from Monday the 20th October, 2014.

Marshmallow Temptation

Before we got to eat our marshmallows today to celebrate our letter of the week, Mm, Mrs Hurst played this funny experiment to us.  We laughed and laughed as we watched the temptations of the different children. Would you wait?
